Often, paramedics are only able to begin a patient’s treatment.

通tōng常cháng情qíng况kuàng下xià，护hù理lǐ人rén员yuán只zhǐ能néng开kāi始shǐ对duì病bìng人rén进jìn行xíng治zhì疗liáo。

They do what they can to help the patient or make a patient comfortable.

他tā们men会huì尽jǐn其qí所能néng帮助zhù病bìng人rén或huò让ràng病bìng人rén感gǎn到dào舒shū适shì。

They may begin to give a patient medicine.

他tā们men可能néng会huì开kāi始shǐ给gěi病bìng人rén开kāi药yào。

Or, they try to reduce a patient’s pain.

或huò者zhě，他tā们men试shì图tú减轻病bìng人rén的de痛tòng苦kǔ。

Then, they bring the patient to the hospital or another doctor for final treatment.

然rán后hòu，他tā们men把bǎ病bìng人rén带到dào医yī院由yóu另lìng一yī位wèi医yī生shēng进jìn行xíng最zuì后hòu的de治zhì疗liáo。

“After leaving the new family at the hospital, we travel to our next call.

“在zài医yī院离lí开kāi这zhè个gè新xīn家jiā庭tíng后hòu，我wǒ们men前往wǎng下xià一yī个gè电diàn话huà拨bō打者zhě的de家jiā。

We reach the home of a 60-year-old man with pain and pressure in his chest.

我wǒ们men来lái到dào了le一yī位wèi60岁老人rén的de家jiā，他tā胸xiōng口kǒu疼téng痛tòng，有yǒu压yā迫pò感gǎn。

He has a far-away look in his eyes.

他tā的de眼yǎn睛里lǐ有yǒu一yī种zhǒng茫máng然rán感gǎn。

We quickly examine him.

我wǒ们men迅xùn速sù对duì他tā进jìn行xíng了le检jiǎn查。

The exam shows the man is having a heart attack.

我wǒ们men在zài检jiǎn查之zhī后hòu发fā现xiàn，这zhè名míng男nán子zi心xīn脏zàng病bìng发fā作zuò了le。

We quickly take him to the hospital, and into the surgery department.

我wǒ们men赶gǎn紧把bǎ他tā送sòng到dào医yī院，送sòng进jìn了le外wài科kē。

As soon as we reach the parking lot another call comes in.”

我wǒ们men刚gāng到dào停tíng车场chǎng，另lìng一yī个gè电diàn话huà就打了le进jìn来lái。”

“The patient is a 30-year-old man.

“患者zhě是shì一yī名míng30岁的de男nán子zi。

He has been injured through the explosion of an oil pipe.

他tā因油yóu管guǎn爆bào炸zhà而ér受shòu伤shāng。

He has a wide open hole in his lower abdomen, near his stomach.

他tā的de下xià腹fù部bù（靠近jìn肚子zi的de位wèi置zhì）有yǒu一yī个gè大dà洞dòng。

When we reach him he is surprisingly calm.

当dāng我wǒ们men找到dào他tā时shí，他tā出chū人rén意yì料地平píng静jìng。

Happily we are able to confirm there are no injuries to his internal organs.

幸xìng运的de是shì，我wǒ们men能néng够gòu确认rèn他tā的de内脏zàng没méi有yǒu受shòu伤shāng。

This would have made the wound far more serious.

这zhè样yàng的de话huà，伤shāng势会huì更gèng加严重zhòng。

We bandage and cover the wound and get him to the hospital.

我wǒ们men用yòng绷běng带给gěi他tā包扎好hǎo伤shāng口kǒu，然rán后hòu把bǎ他tā送sòng到dào医yī院。

There, a group of hospital workers is already waiting for him.”

在zài那nà里lǐ，一yī群医yī护hù人rén员yuán已经jīng在zài等他tā了le。”

Being an emergency paramedic is difficult work.

做zuò急jí救jiù人rén员yuán是shì一yī项困难nán的de工gōng作zuò。

But Nimrod believes the work he is doing is important.

但dàn尼ní姆mǔ罗luó德dé认rèn为wèi他tā正在zài做zuò的de工gōng作zuò很hěn重zhòng要yào。

And he believes that his experiences growing up on a kibbutz greatly influenced his opinion of people.

A kibbutz is a planned community.

Members of the community work closely with each other.

They often share responsibilities and resources.

Nimrod tells about his influences:

“I was born in and grew up on the Kibbutz Lahav.

“我wǒ出chū生shēng在zài基jī布bù兹zī-拉哈hā夫fū，并在zài那nà里lǐ长zhǎng大dà。

It is not far from Kfer Saba.

它离lí卡法fǎ萨巴bā不远。

As a child, my education was centred around socialist beliefs.

小xiǎo时shí候，我wǒ的de教jiào育yù是shì以社shè会huì主义信xìn仰yǎng为wèi中zhōng心xīn。

Growing up on the kibbutz made me respect and encourage the idea of fairness and shared labour.

在zài基jī布bù兹zī长zhǎng大dà让ràng我wǒ尊zūn重zhòng并鼓励lì公gōng平píng和分fēn担dān劳动dòng的de理lǐ念niàn。

Those values inform my everyday work.

这zhè些xiē价jià值观guān影yǐng响xiǎng着zhe我wǒ的de日rì常cháng工gōng作zuò。

But I think it was my mother who had the greatest influence on me.

但dàn我wǒ认rèn为wèi对duì我wǒ影yǐng响xiǎng最zuì大dà的de是shì我wǒ的de母亲。

She taught me that we are all partners in a shared journey.”
